THE NEW LEAF DIFFERENCE

CURRICULUM

New Leaf Preschool’s curriculum is based on a combination of highly researched philosophies including Montessori & Reggio, in addition to the whole child approach to education. The whole child approach focuses not only on each child’s academic skills such as math and literacy skills, but also the social, emotional and cognitive skills necessary to prepare them for a lifetime of success. Sensory-based and self-directed learning through nature exploration is a major component of our program. Our classrooms, indoor and out, act as a second teacher with carefully chosen developmentally appropriate works and self-correcting materials which are organized to support maximum growth and exploration through open ended organic play. In addition these works and self-correcting materials accommodate the developmental needs of each individual student within the classroom.

HEALTHY NATURAL & ORGANIC FOOD

We prepare healthy organic and natural food onsite in our kitchen. Many daycare centers buy low quality food to cut costs. We believe that what we put into our bodies matters. Healthy food is an expense that shouldn’t be spared so we invest in high quality options. Food has become seriously toxic laced with preservatives, pesticides, and GMO’s which can build up in our bodies over time and affect us later in life. Children are particularly susceptible to these exposures because their bodies are smaller and are still developing. In addition to eating nutritious food children learn about nutrition and help to grow and harvest their own food from our onsite organic garden!

WHY DOES ORGANIC MATTER:

Here is some of the latest research taken from Healthy Child Healthy World:

“Although the full scope of the threat is not yet known, research confirms that pesticide exposure can harm us in serious ways. Conventional growers use synthetic pesticides that can damage our brain and nervous system, disrupt our hormones and contribute to cancer.”

Boyle, Megan “Five Essential Facts about Pesticides on Fruits and Vegetables.” Healthy Child Healthy World, www.healthychild.org/five-essential-facts-about-pesticides-on-fruits-and-vegetables. Accessed 29 August 2017.

“[Newcastle University] reviewed 343 prior studies on the nutrition content of organic versus conventional foods. Their analysis found that organic fruits and vegetables contain up to 69% more antioxidants and have an average level 17% higher than ordinary produce. Switching to organic foods, the authors say, can boost antioxidant intake by 20 to 40% without increasing calories eaten.”

“Organic foods are not genetically modified, which means parents don’t have to worry about crops that make their own pesticides, contain new never-before-seen proteins, and/or have been linked to allergies, organ damage, and more.”

BACKGROUND

So you're interested in other Education options for your child; we may already be more alike than you know! My name is Paige Christoff and I am a mother of three girls with an undeniable passion to do what I can to make the world a better place. I hold a bachelor's degree in Environmental Design from the University of Wisconsin- Green Bay, have over 10 years of experience in the Early Education field and have been running this Private Preschool for over 4 years, formally called Little Sprouts Academy. This school grew out of a desire to create something I felt was necessary for the developmental needs of all children including my own! Our preschool's curriculum is based on the highly researched Montessori Method, which focuses on a prepared environment as a second teacher. During these 4 years we have received a copious amount of community support and interest in a like-minded school for students past preschool. We are very excited to announce that we will be offering an option for Elementary & Middle School Education in the Green Bay area: New Leaf Prep Academy, a seamless option for students beyond their preschool years at New Leaf Preschool!

"We're not just another school,

I can promise you that."

NEW LEAF'S VISION

New Leaf ’s Curriculum will focus on the whole child through highly researched, hands on teaching philosophies and techniques, mainly the Montessori Method. Hands-on learning is a proven way to keep students more engaged and increase retention.

"curating critical thinkers, problem solvers, & self-motivated learners."

Our curriculum will help students to make sense of the world around them without gaining skills at the expense of actual knowledge. Our holistic approach to learning examines all avenues that will affect lifelong student success including each child’s academic skills, such as math and literacy skills, but also their social, emotional and cognitive skills. A minimalist environment free of technological distractions will aid in calming their mind and body and enable them to focus on the lessons and material at hand. New Leaf Prep Academy will feature low teacher to child ratios so students can safely learn through trial and error. Sensory-based and self-directed learning through nature exploration is a major component of our programming in additional to learning practical life skills such as tieing shoes and caring for one's environment.

Our classrooms, indoor and out, act as a second teacher with carefully chosen developmentally appropriate works and self-correcting materials which are organized to support maximum growth and exploration in a diverse range of fields cohesive with the traditional Montessori Method. In addition these works and self-correcting materials accommodate the developmental needs of each individual student within the classroom allowing them to learn and grow at their own pace and according to their own interests. All aspects of our curriculum will be carried out in a toxic-free, natural minded, screen free environment.

MONTESSORI CURRICULUM

Our curriculum is based on the highly researched Montessori Philosophy and will help children to develop through a holistic, whole child approach to create confident leaders, problem solvers and self-driven successful individuals! But don't take our word for it. Many successful accomplished CEO's, business leaders, artists, and innovators received education in Montessori Schools, and often credit their success in part to the methodology. This includes people such as Larry Page and Sergei Brin, the founders of Google; Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon; Grammy Award-winning artist Taylor Swift; inventor Thomas Edison, and Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia. Even Harvard credits Montessori as an essential building block for success in later life!

PROOF MEASURED IN SUCCESS

With more than 300 public schools in the United States using the Montessori Method, 150 of them being charter schools there is a great deal of backing behind the highly researched method. In a longitudinal Study conducted by individuals from the Department of Psychology and Department of Education found that although test scores started at a same base point between traditionally educated children and children taught through the Montessori Method over time the children educated through the Montessori Method made greater strides in academic achievement, social understanding and mastery orientation. Montessori students also scored higher on executive function when tested at 4 years old.
